Gear Guard turns the security system on a Rivian vehicle into a friendly presence. When active, embedded cameras, a braided steel cable lock, and alarm systems keep gear, and peace of mind, safe while parked. The visual centerpiece is Gear Guard Gary: a yeti-like creature with warmth and personality that appears on the center screen, giving the system a human voice and a playful face instead of cold surveillance.
Our work centered on discovering the visual language that could carry both trust and delight. Brought to life by illustrator Zachariah Ohora, it’s is approachable, quirky, and soft-edged enough to feel like a companion, not a warning. That tone made it possible for Gear Guard to extend beyond the screen: plush toys, merch, stop-motion shorts and seasonal UI skins, to name a few. It’s not just a tech feature anymore, it’s a character with personality, a digital guardian that also belongs in people’s lives.
